Room # 110 Tahrir Main Campus Oct 27, 2016 Workshop
Workshop 10:30 - 14:00

While all the characters needed for writing the Arabic language are encoded in the Unicode Standard, their visual presentation in a stylistically consistent manner depends on an additional layer of code called the “rendering software”. Of the several types of rendering software available, OpenType is an international standard that provides all the necessary building blocks for the visual presentation of various styles of Arabic script. OpenType is the most widely implemented rendering system on digital systems. Beginning with the basics, we will examine the various features of OpenType that allow us to faithfully render Arabic text in various calligraphic styles. The workshop will be based on real examples from a variety of fonts that are available today, and will provide ample opportunity for questions and discussion.
